After spending seven years with Restaurant Brands International, Global chief marketing officer Fernando Machado has stepped down from his position. Machado has been overseeing marketing several subsidiaries of RBI including Burger Kind, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes. He had joined the company as the head of brand marketing in 2014. In January 2020, he was promoted to the post of CMO in 2017. In January 2020, he became the lead of RBI’s marketing. Machado has apparently resigned from this company as he has accepted another offer. Without giving any detail about his future role, Machado said that it’s a ‘great opportunity’ for him and he will soon announce his next role.
Machado also said that he had a great time during the last seven years during which he worked for Restaurant Brands International. “I am extremely proud of the impact of the team on the brands, especially Burger King. The way the team works around good quality, sustainability, diversity, and inclusion are commendable. The company really has a very strong and talented marketing team. I am more than confident that the team will continue to do great work,” Machado said. A spokesperson for RBI, Paloma Azulay, said one of the best things Machado did during his tenure is to build a strong marketing talent within the organisation.
During his tenure at RBI, Machado became one of the most influential marketers in the world. He played a key role in raising Burger King’s profile as a brand. He is known for spearheading risky but successful campaigns. “He created a strong marketing talent. We are fortunate that because of Machado, today we have exceptional home-market chief marketing officers in Bruno Cardinali, Hope Bagozzi, and Ellie Doty. All three of them have made strong teams at Popeyes, Tim Hortons, and Burger King,” Azulay said and wished Machado the very best for the future. Azulay also said that the global CMO of Popeyes will be promoted to the post of the global chief brand officer of RBI.
