While the pandemic has surely disrupted economic activities, the smartphone industry has hardly seen any slump in the demand. According to analytics company Omdia, Apple has once again proved that it is a leader in the smartphone segment. The US tech giant has a reason to cheer during the time of the pandemic. Its five iPhone models have made it to the top 10 best-sold smartphones in the first half of 2020. The five models are iPhone 11, iPhone SE, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone 11 Pro. The other companies that made to the list include Samsung and Xiaomi. Omdia said that iPhone 11 was the best selling smartphone in the first half of this year globally.
No other smartphone including Apple’s own made even a close approach to the iPhone 11’s sales figure. The company sold 37.7 million units of iPhone 11. iPhone 11 with 256 GB storage capacity is priced at USD 849 in the United States markets. The thirteenth generation lower-priced iPhone was launched in September 2019. It is available in six colors – white, black, red, yellow, green, and purple. The model was also ranked as the second best-selling smartphone globally in 2019. The second in the list is a Samsung product. Samsung shipped 11.4 million units of Galaxy A51. It was launched by the Korean giant in January 2020.
The third and fourth positions were grabbed by Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 (11 million) and Redmi Note 8 Pro (10.2 million). The next three ranks have been occupied by Apple. Apple sold 8.7 million units of iPhone SE, 8 million units of iPhone XR, and 7.7 million units of iPhone Pro Max. As many as 7.3 million units of Xiaomi’s Redmi 8A was shipped by the Chinese company. The ninth smartphone in the list is again a Xiaomi’s product. The company sold over 6.8 million units of Redmi 8. The last smartphone in the list is the iPhone 11 Pro which Apple sold 6.7 million.
